More than one decade after 'Independence Day' film was released, its director Roland Emmerich declared for MTV Movies Blog that the idea of a sequel is very possible, as well as Will Smith's coming back as main actor. "What we want to do in the next - it's actually two movies - we want to do a bigger arc.  'Independence Day' was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that. The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don't know how many years ago this was - twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago - and just continue where it ended", Emmerich said.
No script has been written yet, but Emmerich already thinks about a title: 'ID4-ever'. "One day we will do it and that the story will stay firmly on the planet. It's always about earth and that earth gets invaded", the director also told MTV Movies Blog.
Roland Emmerich was the director and co-writer (alongside producer Dean Devlin) for 1996's 'Independence Day' film which is a science fiction movie talking about the alien invasion of Earth.
