Mo'nique - 2010 The Oscars

Mo'nique - 2010 The Oscars

Everyone tries to look their best for The Oscars, but we found out that, once again, Mo'nique didn't shave her legs for this occasion. At least this time she didn't show them up. Maybe she was too moved for winning "The Best Supportive Actress" award for her role as an abusive welfare mom in 'Precious'.

Shaven or not, Mo'nique was highly favored in the category and beat Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Penelope Cruz.
"Thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forego what's popular in order to do what's right. And baby, you are so right", she said to her husband, Sideny during the acceptance speech.
With her award, Mo'Nique became the fifth black woman to win an acting Oscar, 70 years after Hattie McDaniel became the first African American to do so for 'Gone with the Wind'. Other black women to win in the supporting actress category are Jennifer Hudson for 'Dreamgirls' (2006) and Whoopi Goldberg for 'Ghost' (1990). Next step for Mo'nique would be to go there where just one non-white female succeeded: "The Best Actress in a Leading Role" award. Just like Halle Berry did in 2001 for 'Monster's Ball'.
