The Oscars
The Oscars are obviously the most important event in what movies are concerned! So everybody is waiting for the 'And the Oscar goes to..." moments. We can't say who's going to win this year, though we can make some predictions. It seems like, over the years, even the Oscars have become a little bit predictable. This is how we can try to guess who's going to take home the golden statuette, based on many similarities which have been noticed among the winners in all these years.
So here are the statistics that CNN has come up with:
- the average age of Best Actor winners is 44 years old;
- the average for Best Female winners is 36 years old;
- 63% of winning men and 26% of winning women in the leading role category are beyond 40;
- younger women tend to be privileged (27 women have picked up the Best Actress gong while in their 20s), while younger men are actually underprivileged (Adrien Brody is the only leading male winner aged under 30, who picked up the Oscar for 'The Pianist');
- 20% of male winners and 18% of female winners are UK born;
- 93% of male winners have been white, while only one non-white woman has picked up the Best Actress and that was Halle Berry;
- 49% of female winners and 28% of male winners starred in romance films, so women who act in thrillers are preferred, and the same goes for men who play in war films;
- actors playing a character with physical, mental or auditory/ visual disabilities are also privileged.
Now, judging by these criteria, WE think that "the best actor in a leading role" should be Jeff Bridges because he is beyond 40 and old enough to have one of the last chances in his movie career to win an Academy Award. Hope that didn't sound too rude! Though Jeremy Renner for war film the 'Hurt Locker' could also be a choice.
As for "the best actress in a leading role" award, that could go to Sandra Bullock who's not 36 years old anymore, but she made a pretty good drama out of 'The Blind Side'...with Quinton Aaron's help, of course. At the same time, at the Independent Film festival, which is the Oscars' preamble festival, Gabourey Sidibe was named Best Female Lead. That could also be a hint!
