Former President Bill Clinton, who has a history of heart problems, was taken to a hospital and underwent heart surgery a few days ago. Soon after that the 63 years old Clinton was released from the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia accompanied by daughter Chelsea.

According to counselor Doug Band, Clinton is "in excellent health" after undergoing an emergency procedure to open up a blocked artery. "He warmly thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Hospital for the care he received ... [and] the many people who extended their best wishes to him for a quick recovery. He looks forward in the days ahead to getting back to the work of his Foundation, and to Haiti relief and recovery efforts", he said.
Cardiologist Mark Apfelbaum performed a procedure in which he inserted two stints into the blocked artery through a catheter. Dr. Craig Smith, who had performed quadruple bypass surgery on Clinton in 2004 was also there during the procedure.
The doctors have prescribed Clinton to rest at home as much as he can. So the former president was taken to his home in Chappaqua, N.Y.
