Soupy Sales died at 83 years old! The comedian who took 20,000 pies in front of 5,000 live TV appearances for half a century died, at Calvary Hospice in Bronx, New York on Thursday. “We have lost a comedy American icon. I feel the personal loss, and I also feel the magic that he had around him being gone. That’s a much more severe loss than a loss of a friend”, longtime friend and manager Paul Dver said.
Soupy was best known for his kids show “Lunch With Soupy Sales,” where he first showed the pie-throwing gag. He moved on to “The Soupy Sales Show,” which ran for 13 years in Detroit, New York and Los Angeles.
“If President Eisenhower would have walked down the street, no one would have recognized him as much as Soupy,” Usher said.
