James Cameron may lead in the box-office with the money amount that his movie 'Avatar' made, but his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow took the Best Motion Picture of the Year statuette for 'The Hurt Locker'. This is how Bigelow becomes the first female Best Director winner ever.
At one moment, we all thought that 'Avatar' has no competition. But in the past few weeks, 'The Hurt Locker' grew a lot in the public's eyes and interest. So it gathered nine nominations and went home with the Best Motion Picture of the Year after the last night Oscars. In the end, there was no competition between the 'Avatar' and 'The Hurt Locker'.
Aside from picture and director honors, 'The Hurt Locker' topped 'Avatar' in the editing, sound mixing and sound editing categories en route to collecting a field-leading six Oscars.
