Nurse pranked commits suicide after the hoax
Jacintha Saldanhs, the nurse at the King Edward VII Hospital committed suicide on December 7. Jacintha was pranked by two Australian DJs while Kate Middleton was in hospital. DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian called at the hospital and pretended to be Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth.
They asked for info about the expectant Duchess of Cambridge. Jacintha didn’t realize she wast he victim of a prank and she gave the DJs the info they asked about the 30-year-old mom-to-be.
“Jacintha was an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular”, John Lofthouse said. The woman was married and had two children.
Kate Middleton who was hospitalized at King Edward VII Hospital for four days due to morning sickness issued a statement. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time”, the statement reads.
So far, details surrounding Jacintha’s death are not available for the moment. John Lofthouse said that Jacintha Saldanhs was the victim of the hoax and “the hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time”.
On December 5, the two DJs behind the prank issued an apology. But that was before Jacintha killed herself. The two men are yet to comment of the nurse’s death.
Was the prank part of the reason she killed herself? That would definitely be awful!
