Miss USA 2014 named Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez
Nia Sanchez has been crowned Miss USA 2014. Nia is this year’s Miss Nevada. She’s also a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo.
As an adult, the 24-year-old brunette has volunteered at women’s shelters, teaching residents how to defend themselves and teaching kids about “stranger danger”. “I relate to them on a personal level because I’ve been there myself,” she said.
Nia received the crown on June 8 after a three-hour telecast from the Baton Rouge Civic Center in Louisiana. The crown was given to her by the 2013 winner, Erin Brady, of South Glastonbury, Connecticut.
First runner-up was Miss North Dakota Audra Mari.
As for Nia, she will go on from the 63rd Miss USA to represent the U.S. at the Miss Universe competition later this year.
