Katy Perry 'Wide Awake' makes Russell Brand reference?
Katy Perry may have another song about ex-husband Russell Brand.
The 27-year-old singer debuted her newest song ‘Wide Awake‘ at Sunday’s 2012 Billboard Awards. “I wish I knew then what I know now / Wouldn’t dive in, wouldn’t bow down / Gravity hurts / You made it so sweet ’til I woke up on the concrete”, the song reads.
‘Wide Awake’ will be featured on her new flick, ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’.
So what do you think? Was Russell her illusion and now her life as a single woman is “the concrete”? Many fans interpreted the lyrics as the singer’s farewell to her former husband.
The song comes soon after the singer unleashed another Russell Brand track ‘Part of Me’ at this year’s Grammys.
Speaking about her lyrics and putting her personal tunes on ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’, Katy said she had a few feelings to put out.
“There were two songs that I had from Teenage Dream that I couldn’t put on, it was ‘Part of Me’ and ‘Dressing Up’. And then I knew we were doing the re-release and so I was like, ‘I got to get in the studio’, because I can’t wait eight months to be able to put out this feeling that I’m feeling right now, ’cause God knows it would take eight months to do another record. I couldn’t do it on the fly, to set up records it takes time”, she confessed.
Katy met Russell in 2009 when she filmed a cameo appearance for his film ‘Get Him to the Greek’. They started dating several months later in September 2009 after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The two become engaged in December 2009 while vacationing in India. Perry and Brand married on October 23, 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, India.
Russell filed for divorce from Katy in late 2011 after a 14-month long marriage.
