Julian Assange was arrested early Tuesday in London. The WikiLeaks founder is being kept on arrest on suspicion of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion in Sweden.
“Julian Assange, 39, was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant by appointment at a London police station at 9:30 a.m. He’s accused by the Swedish authorities of one count of unlawful coercion, two counts of sexual molestation and one count of rape, all alleged to have been committed in August 2010″, says the police statement.
39-year-old Assange has been hiding in the U.K. since the hundreds of thousands of documents detailing diplomatic cables had been leaked on his Web site.
On Thuesday, he met police in London. Assange is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrate’s Court Tuesday.
The charges of rape were made by two women Assange had met in Sweden during a business trip. Following the accusations, Assange faces possible extradition.
