Joe Halderman Pleads Guilty in David Letterman Extortion Case!

Robert "Joe" Halderman, the man who tried to blackmail David Letterman a while ago, pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Manhattan courtroom. 

In September 2009, he tried to extort $2 million from the CBS' 'Late Show' host in exchange for keeping quiet about Letterman's affair with an employee, Stephanie Birkitt. Halderman used to be Stephanie Birkitt's partner and found out about her affair with Letterman. When he asked Letterman for money, the CBS host went to the police. Halderman was arrested while trying to cash a fake check.
Following this incident, Letterman publicly admitted his infidelity and apologized to his wife.
Halderman who pleaded not guilty in the first place, was sentenced to six months in prison and. In addition to the jail time, he received 5 years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
"I have great remorse for what I have done", Halderman told the court.
"His admissions today were compelling, and for that he will receive a serious sentence", Letterman attorney's Daniel J. Horwitz said in a statement. "When they became involved with this case, I had complete faith that a just and appropriate result was inevitable. On behalf of my family, I am extremely grateful for their tireless efforts", Letterman said thanking the district attorney and New York City Police Department.
