Boy George with bruised eye
Boy George assaulted outside of a North Yorkshire nightclub in England on Saturday night, March 31. The singer posted a photo of himself on Twitter after the assault. The picture shows the singer with a bruised eye.
“Looking pretty after getting assaulted on Saturday night!” he wrote along with the photo. Later the tweet was removed.
But what happened? 50-year-old Boy George he was exiting club Amadeus when he was hit in the eye by a fan who tried to run away with his hat. The singer tried to stop the little thief, but he got “poked”.
The singer did not press charges against the fan who assaulted him. The issue was that Boy George had to attended a few meetings the second day and he wasn’t willing to appear with a bruised eye. So his wardrobe team had to find something to cover the bruise. And they did a pretty funny costume diversion.
“The genius of Christine! One eye Joe! I have a gig so had to be clever! Quite Left Eye innit!” Boy George wrote on Twitter along with a photo of a thrifty pair of patch-covered glasses.
Boy George is best known for singing with his Culture Club band back in the 80s. He founded the band with Mikey Craig (bass guitar), Roy Hay (guitar and keyboards) and Jon Moss (drums and percussion). He started a solo career in the late 80s.
Boy George is also known for his androgynous appearances which created speculation about his sexuality. One time he said that many of the songs he wrote for Culture Club were directed at drummer Jon Moss. But one of Culture Club’s biggest hits ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me‘ was about punk rock singer Kirk Brandon. Jon Moss knew about Boy George’s sexual relationship with Kirk Brandon, but Brandon denied any relationship with George.
In 2006, in an episodic documentary directed by Simon George titled ‘The Madness of Boy George’, George declared on camera he was “militantly gay”. In another 2008 documentary titled ‘Living with Boy George’, he talked about his first realization he was gay, and when he first told his parents.
