Billie Joe Armstrong rehab: Green Day frontman seeks help
Rough days for the Green Day band and even rougher for their frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. The singer entered rehab for substance abuse.
Armstrong’s publicist confirmed on Sunday the singer is getting the help he needs. The news comes just days after the Green Day frontman had a total meltdown on stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.
It all started when producers announced Green Day, they had sliced 20 minutes out of their performance make room for other acts. Armstrong went ballistic when he noticed a “one-minute” warning being flashed at him from a TelePrompter monitor while he was singing.
“You’re going to give me one minute? One f—ing minute? I’ve been around since f—ing 19 f—ing 80 f—ing 8, and you’re going to give me one f—ing minute? I’m not f—ing Justin Bieber, you motherf—ers”, he said on stage.
Armstrong then stormed off stage smashing his guitar as he exited.
The band later issued a statement apologizing for the incident. “Billie Joe has been a loose cannon for a long time. It’s long past time when he should be getting some serious help”, one source close to the band revealed.
Three weeks ago, Armstrong was hospitalized. The emergency forced the band to cancel a concert in Italy. At the time, Armstrong said he lost his voce. Now we can tell it was his addiction that caused him to be rushed to the hospital.
Armstrong is married to Adrienne Nesser. They met in 1990 at one of Green Day’s early performances in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They married in 1994. The couple has two sons: 17-year-old Joseph Marciano and 14-year-old Jakob Danger.
Armstrong has identified himself as bisexual in 1995. “I think I’ve always been bisexual. I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of ‘Oh, I can’t’. They say it’s taboo”, the singer told The Advocate at the time.
