Singer and guitarist Alex Chilton died in New Orleans yesterday after suffering what appeared to be a heart attack. He was 59 years old.

The singer was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital the same day, after complaining about his health. The official cause of his death hasn't yet been released.
Chilton is best known as singing alongside Box Tops (remember "The Letter" hit)  and Big Star ( with whom he played the theme song for 'That '70s Show' named "In the Street").
While playing with Big Star, Chilton inspired the likes of R.E.M., Wilco, Jeff Buckley and the Replacements, who even went so far as to ink "Alex Chilton", a tribute song to the singer, back in 1987. "Children by the millions sing for Alex Chilton when he comes round/ They sing, I'm in love, what's that song?/ I'm in love with that song", say the lyrics.
